Wisp

Wisp / Sanctuary Lab / Galloway Dark Skies Park

A will-o'-the-wisp (Medieval Latin for "foolish fire") is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps, or marshes. It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travellers from the safe paths. Commissioned as part of Sanctuary Lab 2017, Will O The Wisp is an environmental light and text installation located in the Galloway Forest. A verse, once interacted with through a box of haze is un-veiled in the air between the trees . Tied to themes of absence, perception and play the artwork receded into the dark wood, luring people to the silver forest of the dark sky park. Part installation, text-based work and performance.
