The Stove Network is an arts and community organisation based in the heart of Dumfries High Street. A cafe, a community centre, an arts hub and an incubator for the region’s communities of creatives and activists.
With a programme stretching across music, theatre, design, public and live art, conversation events, architecture and town planning, the Stove unites creative and community activism, learning and socially-engaged practice to ignite conversation about the future of our town and region. One that is resilient, optimistic, creative and powerful.
All at one time a producer, an artist, a building, an activist and an enabler the Stove serves to develop and grow creative projects and foster community cohesion and resilience through a public practice, still in discovery but firmly rooted in the ideals and values of the community of Dumfries.
An Art in-between
The Stove is just a part of the conversation happening throughout the world. How can people better take control of the places they live, and by doing that, how can we create a better society for everyone?
At the heart of it, the Stove is all about Dumfries. Born from a respect for our home, we believe we can shake things up and begin to reclaim our town as something everyone can be part of.
Sure, it’s a big idea and we don’t have all the answers but we’re not ones for sitting back and letting the big decisions happen without us.
We believe we can reclaim, inspire and forge big new ideas on community, art and citizenship alongside our neighbours, communities and partners.
We believe art is a gateway for people to better understand their lives, their value and their rights. By doing this, through our programme and projects alongside our work with partners both local, national and international we’re building new careers, challenging the outdated ideas on community and art and making those in power listen.
